A social bookmark* site for “sustainability” web content.
*(Video to quickly understand social bookmarking below; if you dont use social bookmarking, it doesn’t matthers, 25 million people do)
The accelerated explosion of apparantly “sustainablity” driven initiatives from business, governments and civil society puts user (consumer and voter) confidence under threat, and undermines the many genuine efforts for environmental and social change.
Can social networking save us from the invasion of greenwash?
GreenMeter allows users to view, share and rank sustainability related web content using a similar concept to the many existing social bookmark sites (diggit, del.i.cious, google bookmark etc). The key difference of this system is that it is based on an obligatory ranking system, allowing users to see how others have rated content on a scale of green to greenwash.
The idea is to build up traffic and votes to mark the difference between truely “green” products, NGO sustainability campaigns and government initiatives from the barrage of false pretences, green marketing and governmental greenwash.
How it works:
- Register at GREENMETER (open id)
- Add content and qualify as “green” or “greenwash” (bookmarking and voting happens simultaneously)
- View ranked content at GREENMETER

Here is a video if you need to know what is “social bookmarking”.
